Commercial Sunflower Farming
Sunflowers grow faster than other cash crops and give higher yields. They give end products like sunflower oil when processed in value addition. Sunflower oil is one of the major edible vegetable oil used to cook. Another key advantage of sunflowers is their ability to attract bees. Sunflowers can be planted along the beehives to attract bees.
The ability of sunflowers to grow in most areas where maize is farmed means it can also do well under good management. With the short rains expected to depress sunflower can be a good source of fodder for animals as it requires little rainfall. The farm should be well ploughed with a good tilt. Sunflower does well in Sandy loam soils supplemented with three tons of manure. The manure and sand should be mixed evenly well to avoid seeds scorching. Depending on the size of the land planting can be done manually or using machines.
